In Tandem #6, "A Day at the Beach (also Friday Flash 55)

A Day at the Beach

Childhood dreams
ride the wave of possible.

A youth's frontier of
soaring imagination,

fragile yet durable.
Hopes frolicking and

rolling about, unhindered,
free of bigotry, intolerance,
greed and hatred.

Illusory beliefs encouraged
by adulating guardians

cheering them on
while revisiting their own

faded yearnings
nurtured into existence

once again
with a day at the beach

This is for Friday Flash 55 (a story or poem in 55 words or less) and In Tandem #6.    Penny Smith has a number of blogs and recently started a challenge where one is prompted to write to original graphics or paintings.  My watercolor sketch of the two girls on the beach was selected this week along with Penny Smith's graphic.  Give it a try... she adds a new one each Wednesday.

I also entered this in the AWESOME dVerse blog.  If you like poetry, please do yourself a favor and check it out... and try submitting a poem of your own.

  1. Childhood dreams
    ride the wave of possible.

That's what makes them so magical!

(Thanks for the lovely plug, but you didn't have to add my picture, just because it was there.*smiles*)

  4. Jinksy - But your image is the close up of the waves! It fits perfectly (at least in my eyes) :)

TexWisGirl, Pheromone Girl & Brian - I always feel so much younger when at the beach... until I see the teenage girls in their bikinis... but that is a whole other story... :)

  11. This is one of the best 55s ever on the planet, Margaret.

Starting with that watercolor appetizer to your main courses, sides and dessert with lingering coffee this post made me feel all is well with the world, and always will be.

    xo

P.S. I was more uplifted than I can tell you to see you'd been over recently and commented on a string of my posts. I want to do that here -- so brace yourself.

But first, I have dinner to make.

    xo agin!!

  14. Your poetry is lovely, but I must comment on the watercolor. Amazing! If one looked at nothing but the water action in the background, they would have t be impressed. Wonderful work.

The only watercolor I ever tried was in a high school art class. Mine came out looking like random blotches of color on a wet sheet of paper.

  16. I live at the beach (ergo - beachanny) so these are everyday sights and sounds. Peaceful and fun but keeping eyes ever ready - seas turn dangerous without much warning.
    Thanks. G.

  21. Thank you, honestly. I started my blogs because I wanted to be inspired with my art work. Then I started taking photographs - I figured it would help me with composition. THEN, I started poetry because my son is passionate about it and I saw a few blogs that had challenges so... I have been writing poetry for a little over half a year. Now I need to find a balance between all three... Funny how one thing leads to another...

Oh, speaking of THAT... I walked over to the farm across the street and wanted to photograph the animals for one of my blogs. They had horses. We leased a few ponies... and I rekindled my buried love of horses... so now I own one horse and am searching for another. All because of a blog... (LOL)

  22. lovely write - as a desert girl I have never seen the ocean or been to the beach yet, this really brought the sense forward that I need to connect there. ~ Rose
